Dark Comedy
Marin Ireland (28 Hotel Rooms) stars in this dark comedy as an aspiring actress, Rebecca, who is having a difficult time getting it all together. She is a sympathetic figure. Most people can identify with her plight in one way or another, but there is a dark side to her. Is she a bad person or does she just have bad impulse control that is borne out of frustration? That is a question to ponder about Rebecca.
She gets an exciting opportunity to be the understudy at an off broadway play - but it could go big - she tells everyone. As the understudy, Rebecca does all the unpleasant and inglorious tasks for the cast and crew with little appreciation or respect. Then, she gets an unexpected chance to play the lead, Electra, and it looks as though things are looking up for her, but that would be a hasty judgment. Another big name actress is brought in for the part. Throughout the story, Rebecca acts on her impulses to clear a path for her success and when she does, someone gets...
The Understudy
I mainly watched the movie because Tom Wopat was in it, but the movie was very good. I felt it was an emotional movie, I felt Rebecca's pain where her job, and family were concerned, I've been through similar pain. All of the actors and actress's did a very good job, I'm surprised this movie wasn't shown her in the US. The ending was vague, but I guess it was expected what would happen to her. As far as Tom Wopat's part, he did an excellent job as a detective. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes crime films.
A great dark comedy
It's the classic "loser" in the family story, Rebecca's siblings are very successful whereas she is a struggling, unsuccessful actor. She then gets the part as the star of a show--- but the understudy, through a series of 'unfortunate' events to the leading lady Rebecca becomes the star. But with some fun twists and turns, the humor is entertaining, because it doesn't feel forced like you see in a lot of main stream movies. The cast was good, everyone was enjoyable to watch.
Overall I would rate this as a good movie to buy, because regardless of if you know what's going to happen, it's still funny.
