3-2-1 Penguins: Save the Planets

Good investment in money and time
This was a good buy. The DVD contains 3 separate episodes, which is new for 3-2-1 Penguins.

The first one is "More is More" which I loved. The children (Jason and his twin sister Michelle) are interested in a sugary cereal called Sugar Frosted Black Holes, but get called away on a mission with their friends the Penguins. They're called to a planet Gutt because its gravitational field isn't working properly. On the way to the planet, they come across some of the cereal, and Jason and Kevin become addicted. Even though they are full, they want more. Once the penguins arrive at the planet, they see that the leader of the planet has put on a lot of weight compared to his picture on the wall. He has also been eating the sugary cereal. His home is also covered with video games. Michelle comments that it just seems like too much, and she's waiting for a lesson from Saul. Jason figures out that sugar in the cereal is the cause of the gravitational imbalance, and as soon as everyone...

Three episodes in a row works for me.
We purchased the new DVD, "3-2-1 Penguins: Save the Planets." This is the first new release of 3-2-1 Penguins since Big Idea Productions was acquired by Classic Media.

We liked the three episodes that you can play all at once. It sounds like they got new actors to do the voices of Michelle, and Captain Zidgel. They follow the same formula as previous episodes with Jason and Michelle praying at their bedside at the end of the day, prompted by the lessons they have learned in their most recent space adventure. The three new adventures don't have musical epilogs like the previous episodes but we liked them.

We have all six previous episodes on DVD and they are all very short. We have to do a lot of DVD player attendance to play three episodes in a row. Big Idea needs to re-release the six previous episodes on two separate DVD product releases, three episodes per DVD with a "Play All" option on the DVD menu.

Totally awesome!
I got this DVD in the mail today and I was sooooooo excited! I LOVE 3-2-1 Penguins! This DVD has 3 cool episodes on it.

"The Green-Eyed Monster"
This episode is about envy. Michelle is jealous because Jason's room is a tiny bit bigger than hers. They land on a planet called Picket, where it is divided by a picket fence, and the sheep who inhabit the planet are arguing on who has the greener grass, and even when they switch sides, they still think the other side is greener. Suddenly, a green-eyed monster appears, and begins to eat everything.

"More Is More"
This episode is about over doing it. Kevin and Jason get addicted to a new cereal called Sugar Frosted Black Holes. They land on a planet called Gutt and it has a strong gravitational field. The people of this planet have become gluttons. And now, a huge space twister threatens to suck the planet into nothing.

"Give and Let Give"
This is an episode about sharing. Michelle doesn't want...

The Best of Rocky & Bullwinkle - Vol. 2

Stories form Seasons 4 & 5 DVD sets!
**Updated 2/2/11**

If you have been collecting the seasonal sets 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 like me, then you can pass on this.

First a quick word about these later seasons:
SEASON 4 - only 19 new half hour shows were produced. The rest of the season was filled out with re-runs.
SEASON 5 - NO new half hour shows were produced. BUT 66 new 3.5 minute Rocky & Bullwinkle segments were produced to be inserted into older shows, replacing the older Rocky & Bullwinkle segments. Thus 33 half hour shows were created for the 5th season re-using the secondary cartoons from previous seasons.

The box art shown by Amazon must be a preliminary version. It states "16 Fumbled Plays", when actually there are 28 episodes. My box cover states "28 Fumbled Plays".

Each of the three stories starts out with one opening title section from seasons 1 or 2 as indicated, a brief Rocky & Bullwinkle intro. And then the story chapters, uncut but with out the individual...

I really didn't want to buy this.
When is Classic Media just going to release a proper season four DVD set? That is what I would like, instead I have to buy this. The episodes are great, and none of them are one the first three season sets, but I like the interludes of Fractured Fairy Tales, Aesop and Son, and Peabody and Sherman. Also, the 'exploding lightbulbs' end credits would be nice too. It has a much jazzier tone to it.

Content Brilliant but presentation is not the original cut.
Rocky and Bullwinkle are great, but the original format has been changed for these DVD's. Instead of the chapter interludes (Fractured Fairy-tales, etc.), the story goes from beginning to end without "interruption". Anyone raised on Rocky and Bullwinkle will be a little disappointed that the style has been changed.

Veggie Tales: Princess & The Popstar

Fun and Valuable Lesson
We love VeggieTales and is always exciting to see what they come out with next. Having two daughters it is great to have a girlie episode every once in a while. The Princess and the Popstar is a great colorful story with fun new music. A "freaky friday", "grass is always greener...", and "the prince and the paulper" story to show these two girls that they are better in their own lives just as God created them. Already my toddler has requested we watch it multiple times. So glad she enjoys something of worth.

My girls LOVE it, looking forward to a soundtrack
My girls are 4 and 6 and they love this movie. I think the idea of always wanting for something better was a gret topic for their age.

Looking forward to Little Drummer Boy in October!!!!

This Switcheroo Stumbles at the End
Princess Poppyseed (Laura Carrot) is not happy with her life on the farm. She has too many brothers and sisters and doesn't like her chores collecting the eggs and milk that her family uses to grow pies. Princess wishes she had the life of her favorite singer, Vanna Banana (also Laura Carrot but a different voice actress). Vanna, meanwhile, is lonely and wishes she could have a normal life. When the two meet by chance on a playground, they decide to switch lives. But will that bring them the happiness they are seeking?

Maybe I was just being dense, but I was glad to see that they had named one of their main characters Princess and that was how they were ripping of the title of Twain's famous book. Once I got that down, I was able to get caught up in the story. They were a little preachy in the middle, but that didn't last for long. Unfortunately, the ending didn't live up to the rest of the video. It was way too cheesy and drawn out.

For the silly song...

Peter Cottontail - The Movie

my kids love this movie
My first-grader AND my fifth-grader both love this movie. They tend to wake up at the crack of dawn, and this has been on the 6am rotation for some time now. They laugh and laugh, and they espeically love the music sequences (the music on here is first-rate, and the visuals are colorful and engaging). My son's favorite music scene is the opening credits! This is a great DVD--something grownups can also enjoy while the kids laugh it up.

Great sequel to the Rankin/Bass Easter Classic
As a Rankin/Bass fan, I always go into these new remake/computer animated/sequel things expecting to hate them. But I loved this one! There are a lot of nice little touches that tie it into not only the original "Here Come Peter Cottontail", but also several other R/B classics. Many of the characters from the original return including Peter, Antoine, Irontail, Elroy and others. The scenery is stunning and the animation is top-notch, but the songs really steal the show. Everytime there is a song, they present in in a trippy music-video style which is just really fun. The whole thing is just very well done, especially for a direct-to-DVD movie - much better than most of the garbage that's shoveled onto us at the theaters. It's very rare that I add a new film into my roster of holiday specials but this one is definately here to stay! Oh yeah, did I mention that the kids liked it too?

Bring On Spring!
This movie rocks...My little nephew is easy to babysit for now I have this movie. It is my secret weapon. The music is awesome, and the animation is so lively, I find myself watching it too. Can't wait for the sequel!

LESSONS FROM THE SOCK DRAWER

Contains previously-released material
According to the bigidea web site, this DVD contains a lot of previously-released material. The following paragraph is copied from their site:

Short Features Include: Binky the Opera Singer, Going Up, Larry's Blues, Dr. Jiggle & Mr. Sly, Paco and the Singing Aardvark, Omelet, Gated Community, The Englishman Who Went Up The Hill, Larry's Lagoon, Paco and the Chicken, Modern Major General, Forgive-O-Matic, Lunch (A Parable), The Story of St. Patrick, Larry's High Silk Hat

Now of those, there are only three I'm not sure I've already seen (Binky and the Opera Singer -- although that may have been the 10-second clip on "Autotainment" -- and the two Paco shorts). The rest I'm certain I've seen on other VeggieTales DVDs. So if you've seen the entire collection, this is going to be mostly, if not entirely, repeats.

That said, a repeat of a VeggieTale is still better than 90% of what's out there on television or on the sales racks today, but it's difficult to...

Great collection of favorite bits!
A neighbor loaned me their copy of this dvd the other day to watch with my toddler and I had to order a copy of our own because he loved it that much! Even though he's seen most of the material on other dvds or in the series, this is still a great compilation and perfect for when we don't necessarily have time to watch a whole dvd. (We do the same with the Silly Songs dvds, too ... pop one in just long enough for one or two songs while getting ready to head out.)

I think they dropped the ball on this one.
I've loved VeggieTales since I was a teenager, and now my son loves them too. I love sitting down to watch the cute little movies with their simple messages with him. However, I think they dropped the ball on this one. It's really just a compilation of scenes and songs from other videos. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but I'm surprised that they didn't include any new content to keep it interesting. As it is, it's a little repetitive and disappointing.

CHRISTMAS SING-A-LONGS

Not what I expected
This DVD is a compilation of short excerpts from Christmas themed Veggietales videos. Some of the "songs" aren't even complete songs, just a portion of another video that has singing. A lot of cutting and pasting different scenes together to make a "complete" song. Not sure how 30 seconds of a musical number can be called a song. Portions seem to simply cut off in mid sentence. There are no traditional Christmas songs so its only a "sing-a-long" if your kids are familiar with the previously released Veggietales Christmas videos. My daughter loves the traditional Veggietales videos but lost interest in this within minutes. The very end of the DVD has 3 traditional Christmas songs that simply play the music and scroll the words across the screen karaoke style with a still background. Disappointed in this product from Veggietales.

loved it!
My 14mo. old loves it, all the music and bright colors. It keeps her happy while we're driving in the car.

Love VT!
Love it! I have been watching VT since college and I'm 31 and still love them! My son LOVES watching the VT sing-a-longs in the car, and this one was perfect for the Christmas season!

END OF SILLINESS

My kids LOVE this DVD!
I became a Veggie Tales fan back in college, and was excited to introduce it to our toddlers. They love the first Veggie Tales Sing Along video (which I only had in VHS format from years ago); it really came in handy during a week when we were all sick. In May we took a long road trip with our twins, then 16 months old, and ordered this for them to watch in the car. They LOVED it, and watched it over and over! Definitely made our road trip easier. :)

Starts a little harsh
The beginning sequence is Larry having a nightmare, and made me really doubt if I wanted to continue. Maybe it was because the music is really loud compared to the rest of the video, or because it didn't make any sense. Either way, that part still bugs me every time my kids want to watch it.

However, the songs are good and ones we like. And that's the point of having this DVD. So I'll deal with the beginning, like how you have to eat the brussel sprouts before you get dessert...

One of my first sing- along DVDs from Veggie Tales DVD collection!
I just watched this and I thought it was cool. To be more exact, these are some songs I never heard before. Some I have and haven't heard. So far I have 9 Veggie Tales DVDs and hoping to get more. Thanks for the delivery, Amazon! You're the best!
