Casper & Wendy: Scare Up Some Fun

Finally, some nice prints of rarely-seen Casper cartoons
There are so many El Cheapo public domain cartoon compilations out there, I'm always delighted when an old favorite gets some respect from a reputable company. And Classic Media does not disappoint with this rather random but still very attractive set of 1960's Casper shorts.

Here's the list of cartoons:

ENCHANTED HORSE
GROWING UP
MOTHER GOOSE LAND
TWIN TROUBLE
WENDY'S WISH
WHICH IS WITCH
ICE SCREAM
CASPER GENIE
TRUE BOO
BOOS AND SADDLES
BOOS AND ARROWS
LITTLE LOST GHOST

I rate these very high because, for one thing, Casper was almost never shown where I lived growing up. So it's really like watching all new cartoons for me. I'm sure the nostalgia factor will be high for those who DID watch these on t.v. years ago. In any event, the picture and sound quality are quite good, if not quite as polished as the major-studio releases for the Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry collections.

If...

casper
great old fashion cartoon excellent for kids stop violent cartoons would you please get the type we watched as kids again do this ok.

Keep these DVDs coming!
CLASSIC MEDIA always makes cheap DVDs of nicely remastered cartoons! They are sitting on alot of animated treasures that need to come out as well!

'Twas the Night Before Easter

All Flash, Little Substance
Marlee Meade (played by Petunia Rhubarb) is a young reporter in Crisper County who is tired of the veggie interest fluff pieces she normally does. She quits her job to revitalize the local theater. Teaming up with her cameraman/writer (played by Larry the Cucumber), she decided to put on a new musical "Up with Bunnies." It will premier right before Easter and use musical theater to spread hope to others.

Then she learns that local girl made good Cassie Cassava (voiced by American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle), winner of the TV talent show is going to be in town to sing at her home church on Easter Sunday. Marlee knows that if she can get Cassie to perform during opening night, she'll reach a wider audience. Can she do it? Will that really help the community?

Now please don't misunderstand what I am about to say. I found this video to be quite fun, possibly one of the funnier videos that they've put out recently. I laughed a few times at some of the pop...

Surpisingly disappointed
I have never written a review on this website before, but I was so thoroughly disappointed in this Veggie Tales movie that I had to share with other potential buyers that there is a much better Easter story for kids on the market...Easter Carol, also from Veggie Tales.

I confess to being a huge Veggie fan, and even though my kids are older now, we continue to buy the new releases and enjoy them as a family. I was surprisingly disappointed in Twas the Night Before Easter, which I found lacking in any real explanation of what Easter was, as well as so redundant of past Veggie movies (this time it isn't Larry and Bob as Cavis and Millword trying to save an old theater by stealing a star, but Petunia Rhubarb as Marlee who was committing the theft...and this time the star was a celebrity "star," not a physical light-up star...but the motives were the same in each.)

I think Big Idea is trying to hard to crank out two movies a year these days and rushing through the...

Star Of Christmas redo
We saw the promo for this on Meaningful Life ( great one, btw) and when we saw it was out, we snagged it.
except the promo is NOT what this movie is.
It's Star of Christmas redone...and not even redone well.
they even admit in the commentary that they changed it after the promo- dont elaborate on why- and that its basically the same as Star of Christmas.
They dont even touch on the True meaning of Easter- which is what i wanted and am trying to teach my children.
they LOVE the robot bunny... but thats REALLY not what i had in mind.

there have a few good veggie tales lately- this is not. avoid this one!

Swinging With the Finkels

Swinging With the Finkels
Fun show. We enjoyed it. Subject matter was on target while being sweet and stright to the point. Great out come.

Very watchable adult comedy
I'm enjoying it. It's very adult orientated without being obscene and it moves along at a good pace to keep you interested. However, it's Martin Freeman who makes the movie for me and is the reason I bought my own copy after seeing it on cable. Although there's a lot of angst throughout, it ends up being a feel good movie.

Sophie & Sheba

Sophie & Sheba
This was on the top of my 6 year old granddaughters list. She watches this movie over and over.
Great gift for her. Great "family" movie for all ages.

granddaughters love this movie
My granddaaughters loved this movie and they can tell the story about the elephant so serious. It is cute to watch them be so engrossed in a movie.

Lightweight Elephant Comedy/Drama
The meat is thin on this family friendly movie, but it does provide clean, circus fun and a cute elephant.

A teenage ballerina runs off and joins the circus to be with her beloved elephant. There she makes friends and a few foes as she gets to perform and work at rescuing her animal.

The storyline is basic and thin, and one that might not hold child and ,definitely not, adults, interest for long except for the cute animals. The actors are ok; there is a small circus setting with animals including a black panther and, of course, Sheila, the endearing elephant.

No language, sex, only mild peril, a few dramatic parts, some bouncy music and a touch of young romance. I don't dislike it, but wouldn't watch again.

Bel Ami

An amazingly underappreciated film
It is tragic that this movie was so far underpublicized by the production team and, consequently, did not find it's audience. The performances are all superb. The film is visually stunning. The story is intriguing and moves you quickly from love to hate and back again for all of the characters. A diamond in the rough sadly not getting to the masses.

Robert Pattinson's turn as Georges DuRoy will have you loving and hating the man in equal measure, often careening from one to the other in the space of seconds. While, sadly, the book-to-film translation of all of DuRoy's nuances isn't quite fully realized due mostly to some rushing of material, Pattinson's portrayal of the sympathetic blackheart leaves you not knowing if you want to kiss him or shoot him. He moves effortlessly from moments of astonishing vulnerability to shere cold-hearted bastard status and right back again. He brings a sympathy for George's plight which I honestly felt was impossible after reading the...

SLOW GOING BUT IT GETS BETTER
If you've read the book you know it's pretty dastardly, that is if you can suffer through the awkward translations available.

The initial movie seems a bit slow which affects your investment in the characters. But somewhere in the middle it starts to take off and I felt that the actors, especially Rob Pattinson found their footing, which made the rest of the film quite interesting. I will take exception on some of the panning and focus shots they did on the characters at times. It reminded me of an Oscar Wilde comedy, a bit out of context for this genre of film.

Cristina Ricci did a phenomenal job as always as did Kristen Scott Thomas. However, I felt Uma Thurman a bit out of place. She is by all means a talented actress but I believe miscast for this role. It somehow threw the balance off, especially since I thought her a bit over acting in her character, and her exaggerated annunciation of French annoyed.

Several times I thought that Rob...

A Fantastic performance from Robert Pattinson
Based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant this movie is a drastic turn from Robert Pattinson's performance in the Twilight Saga. Set in 19th century France and Georges Duroy's(Pattinson)quest for fortune bring Pattinson's acting skill to a new level. Stellar performances by Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci. A must see for those who love any of the actors in the film.

Brake

SURPRISINGLY GOOD
O.K.--This has the feel of a low budget direct-to-dvd flick. But surprise! It's a helluva ride (pun intended) with an ending that caught me off balance. You could do much worse. Dorff holds the screen.

great movie!
great movie and seller sent fast! packaged properly. Movie setting is in the back of a trunk in a box but very interesting. You will never guess the ending, its so unpredictable.

Awesome movie
I caught this movie on one of the pay channels one early Sunday morning. Started watching (lucky for me it had just started) and immediately became enthralled. I know it's kind of a formula movie, but for those of us who either use TV and movies for entertainment and/or stress relief or stare straight through the TV while you think of a thousand other things you should be doing, this movie was great. On that Sunday, I was the former. My 18 yr old son NEVER watches TV and only occasionally goes to see a movie. He is a computer modeler and picks apart every scene of a movie, so I usually don't ask him to watch movies with my because he's such a Debbie Downer.

However, I knew 20 minutes in that he would love Brake. I Tivo'd the next time it came on and we watched together. He loved it. I purchased a new blu-ray player for his computer for Christmas and bought the Brake blu-ray to go along with it. He's watched it a couple of times. It's a good movie--check it out.

The Dictator - BANNED & UNRATED Version

LOL
First of all, I dont see why so many people have given this a bad review... You must know what you are getting into before you watch it. Obviously there will be racy situations, poor judgement, awkward moments, and be offensive. This movie is hilarious (to me) All you people who got offended watching to movie why didn't you just turn it off? Every time I go to the theater to watch one of his movies people always are walking out... I ask myself, why the heck did you come in the first place? Seriously, this movie is not for the easily offended.

"Are you having a boy or an abortion?"
Sacha Baron Cohen does a great acting job in his latest film, "The Dictator." The gags are mostly good and although some are tacky and racist (with a few being crude) it still held my attention on a very rough day for me because it works as a parody of dictatorships. There is little about the plot and the film that I can add to the reviews already posted here; but I can certainly vouch for other reviewers who write that the film is actually pretty good entertainment, a parody and nothing truly offensive even if Sacha Baron Cohen is very daring when it comes to topics for jokes and gags.

The plot is not terribly deep; but it moves along well and you shouldn't get bored. Sacha Baron Cohen (who plays the brutal dictator of the fictional, northern African country named Wadiya) surrounds himself with excellent actors all turning in convincing performances that make the film even funnier. Sir Ben Kingsley plays Tamir, the rightful heir to the dictatorship occupied by his...

Soo funny and satirical!
For what it was, it was hilarious! A complete satire on terrorism and dictatorships. I feel this is a very underated movie and Sacha Baron Cohen has once again proved his comedic genius. This is one for the ages and will go down in history, like Dr. Strangelove. As for all the bad ratings, what can you say, true greatness is often misunderstood by the masses. Artistic Genius!

Amsterdam Heavy

Exellent Film!
I viewed this film 4 or 5 times. It has the basic narrative of the memory loss of a skilled fighter, the love story between the woman munition expert & the twists & turns of a decent script. if I reveal any more this would be a spoiler. If you like martial arts, hand guns, sex and action then see this film.
